First time this winter. I love it. ♥
But annnnnnnnyway. The past few days have been pretty interesting. Yesterday wasn’t so good because I was basically in a funk (I hate to use the word ‘depressed’) the whole day for no apparent reason. Which is never fun.
Wednesday, I had booked some studio time like a good student to have a play about with an ide
a I had, and to try to get a better understanding of the studio environment (and despite being in there for three and a half hours, I have no doubts that when I go back I will be like a deer in the headlights). It was a good chance to catch up with my friend Sam who kindly modelled for me, who I haven’t seen in months, and we got some food after so yeah it was nice to see him. To the right I’ve included one of the outtakes from my studio session, which actually had nothing to do with the idea I had, but I think it makes quite a powerful image, albeit poorly edited in post production. (Lighting = softbox to the right, with bounced flash)
But Thursday was good. There is new cocktails in Wetherspoons and Butty wanted to try them out, so the plan was to go for a swift drink, and a swift drink ended up being well over 15 drinks, bumping into folk from uni and ending up in Havanas; a club that’s completely black apart from these bright pink boothes that are designed to be like a bed. I don’t actually remember much about Havana’s apart from singing like an obnoxious idiot to ‘Sex on Fire’ by Kings of Leon and a few more uni people showing up after going to the place that shall not be named (Po’s). I think I ended up getting home at about 3:30am, and waking up with no hangover. Good work on my behalf, I think!
But anyway, my main reason for posting is that I got this come through the door this morning…
Yeeeeeesssss! I finally have my own, fully functional, brand new and completely mine dSLR. It’s a Canon 450D, and it’s silver, which means BLINGIN’ (and much easier for thieves to notice and steal, no doubt) and until I read the manual, I have no freaking clue how to use it. 8D To get these photo you see before you, I could only focus it manually (being adept at using manual SLRs probably came in handy here), which in retrospect is probably a good thing, but it might be nice to figure out how to change the flaming aperture & shutter speeds. I also ordered a 50mm 1.8 lens, which should be arriving on Monday. I’m going to spend my Xmas break learning how to use this camera & the lenses I have for it properly so next year I’m ready to go and stop feeling so damn restricted, photography wise.
This brings me up to a grand total of 4 cameras that I own. Before anybody thinks about mugging me, the other three cameras probably aren’t worth stealing. But they certainly do look nice arranged together.
4 days! It’s so close I can smell the underground.
